Catching Up
Posted By Jill on August 13, 2009
To say I haven’t blogged in a while is a bit of an understatement. Although I know Mac is about to wake up, I’m hoping I can catch up somewhat on what we’ve been up to in the last several weeks…
When you last saw us, we were getting Mac’s first haircut in late July! I had just returned from a week-long trip in Madison where I took some time to relax with my mom and also catch up with a couple of friends and see Clare, Dad and Julie and her family. It has become a bit of a tradition to spend a week there in July, and I hope it continues!
Monday the 27th, Mac spent the day with Grandma while Jeremy and I worked at a Habitat for Humanity site through church. It was a nice day to work together for a good cause, and it was a learning experience, both about the work we were doing and each other. I got to see first-hand how very cautious and safe Jeremy is when working with power tools! We need more power tools…
We had a pretty relaxing rest of that week, attended our “Nite to Unite” on Tuesday, marking the one-year anniversary of moving into our house! We also got a little bit of a date, out on a golf course finally, on Thursday the 30th. We thought we should get in some practice before the big Elfering golf outing and the Bruggeman reunion in August!
Friday the 31st we had an exciting day! We had been talking for a while with my dad about buying his boat and getting it up here, and that day finally came! Dad arrived in the late morning, we had some lunch, dropped Mac off and headed out for our first trial run. Unfortunately the lake we chose had a terrible launch, so Jeremy ended up having to push us out and pull us in (I helped a little too). But the boat started and worked very well, and we were very excited!! That night we also had Jo & Steph over for dinner with Dad, who stayed overnight to play and headed home early the next morning. And that wasn’t the only excitement for that day. Jeremy also met with our perspective renter, who responded to our ad on Craigslist the past Sunday, looked at the condo that day and was very interested. Jeremy came home with a signed lease! So that was a great end to July for us.
We tried another outing with the boat the next day, but that one wasn’t so successful. The battery was dead! Poor CJ and Steph were so patient. The next day we charged it up but decided to wait for our next attempt until Monday after I was done with work. THAT one was great! We went to a similar lake with a much better launch. CJ went with us, and we spent about 2 hours out on the lake. I got my first experience driving the boat too. I was impressed but not too surprised at how very much experience Jeremy has and how comfortable he is with not only driving and caring for the boat but also trailering it and all that entails. Even though he had told me he could do it, it’s nice to see for myself and feel confident that he wasn’t exaggerating!
The next two days were spent working, with CJ’s help, thank goodness. We got one of my labs completed in those two days - something that alone probably would have taken a week. Then on Thursday the 6th, Mac headed out to Grandma’s while Jeremy and I took Timmy and CJ out on the boat on Lake Minnetonka.
We wanted Timmy to have a chance out on the boat skiing before he heads off to college! Jeremy has pulled skiers and tubes before and didn’t seem to miss a beat with the boys. Timmy got up on one ski on the first try, and CJ seemed to enjoy his tube ride too! CJ will learn how to ski too, but we have to wait until Jane - the resident ski teacher in the family - is available to help. I tried out the tubing as well but was being too cautious. I’ll have to get used to it again!
Ok, I hear my little munchkin - will continue and add photos later!
