7 Months Old

IMG_0116 Mac has really changed quite a bit this month.  He continues to surprise us by being such a good baby, and he keeps growing and getting better at moving around, sitting up, eating, and all the other stuff he’s supposed to be doing at his age.

He is still eating mostly baby food in addition to four or five bottles each day, which is normal.  We try to give him a taste of whatever we’re having, but with our crazy schedules right now, we figured we’d better at least make sure he gets baby food and cereal, since our meals are pretty inconsistent.  He works on his fine motor skills by eating Kix or something similar off his tray and continues to improve each time at getting the food into his mouth and keeping it there!

He is scooting quite a bit now, most often if we put some electronic device in front of him - phone, remote, etc.  He moves forward well, either on his belly using his knees or feet to propel him, or sometimes even up on his knees and hands, but he usually collapses after moving one of those forward.  He seems to have skipped the phase where most kids scoot backwards first, but at least he’s making some progress!  I have seen him sit up himself a few times now, but I haven’t been able to capture it on video.  Hopefully I will catch some this week, which looks to be slightly more relaxed than last.

Mac adjusted quickly to his new (hand-me-down) crib from Julie that we finally got set up last Wednesday.  He seems to like the space.  He must be able to sleep well and/or keep himself occupied, because when Jeremy and I got up at 10:00 (yes, 10:00 A.M.) this morning, he was awake, still happily just looking around.  I heard him around 8:00 when I got up, but I went back to lie down until he started fussing… which never happened… so I fell back to sleep!  It was a glorious morning - I can’t remember the last time I got that much sleep!  Good way to start another long week.

He seems to have adjusted well to his new schedule.  He wakes in the morning sometimes when I’m getting up at 6:30.  Sometimes he is awake for good, and other times he’ll go back to sleep.  He naps pretty well at Jane’s, and when I’ve gotten him around 2:00, he naps again later in the afternoon at home.  He has been going to bed between 7 and 8 at night, which gives me some time to get things done before I have to get to bed.  Our arrangement of Jeremy getting him to Jane’s in the morning seems to be working and allows me to walk to work!  I mentioned in my last post how blessed we are with help from family and friends.  A mom from school who is also a volleyball coach (and mother of five, including a new four-month-old little girl who will eventually be Mac’s classmate!), and lives in Eden Prairie where Jane is, has graciously offered to pick up Mac for me on days I have volleyball practice after school.  I actually asked her if she’d be willing to do that so I don’t have to deal with rush hour traffic, and she said that she would love to - and would do it other days as well!  She has to come in to pick up her kids at school anyway, and I’d do the same for her if the roles were reversed.  She picked him up last week and watched him for me during my practice then brought him to me two other days last week.  Hopefully that continues to work out, because it is wonderful to be able to see him right after work AND not have to deal with traffic!  I have offered to help her out as well, either taking her kids while she has practice or letting them come to my house when she is going to be late or something.  Hopefully the situation will be beneficial to both of us!
