Packing Up

Posted By Jill on June 27, 2008

Now that we’ve had four and a half months of packing Mac up to take him out for a few hours or the whole day, we are packing him up for a 5-day trip. We are all going to San Antonio from Sunday until Thursday for my national conference.  We are taking advantage of my flight and hotel being paid for to see how Mac will travel before we take him to see Oma and Opa later this summer.  It’s a little odd to have something about which my sisters can’t advise me!  They didn’t fly much with their kids.  Jeremy’s very generous mother got his ticket with her frequent flyer miles (thank you, Roxi!), so the trip will be fairly inexpensive for us (once I get reimbursed, that is).  With Melanie’s wedding tomorrow, we don’t have much time to get organized beyond today, so I started packing yesterday, unless you count doing the laundry on Wednesday to make sure I had everything I would need! Today was packing into suitcases and trying to make sure I have lists of last-minute items.  My memory is not so good, and I wanted to really take my time since I had it to make sure we have everything (check back next week to see what we forgot).  I also wanted to be as efficient in packing as possible since the airlines now charge for more than one bag - and Mac doesn’t count as a traveler with any luggage allowance except for a stroller, car seat and diaper bag.  I’m glad I took the time, and I even learned what to start on a list for Oma and Opa to pick up for us so we don’t have to pack “consumables” like diapers and formula when we travel there.  I think I did pretty well.  We have our two bigger suitcases; one is pretty full with Jeremy’s and my clothes, and the other has all of Mac’s gear and will have our toiletries and last-minute items.  At least there won’t be much of a variance in the weather - it will be HOT.  I am admittedly obsessive about packing (Jeremy makes fun of me), but I think this time it will pay off big-time!!
