Date Nights

Since Jeremy’s been working so many hours, it’s been a little tougher to stick with our regular date nights, though we have done a pretty good job of being home together at least one evening a week. This week we happened to have two big date nights, out and about town!
Tuesday we went to the Marc Cohn concert (Jeremy got tickets for my birthday), and Jane, John, Jodie and John joined us for the evening. We had great plans of going to Cosetta’s for dinner, but with a Wild game and us running late (it’s tricky to get to downtown St. Paul on a weeknight through rush hour after work), we decided on Mickey’s Diner instead. It’s on my list of “touristy” places I wanted to experience in the Cities. It was not quite what I expected, but we were all happy with the meal and the prices, and it was certainly a different experience! The concert was fabulous as expected, albeit hot and a bit cramped in the small Fitzgerald Theater. The first stop on Marc Cohn’s new “Join the Parade” tour, it was great as always to hear his inspirations for his music. These are the kinds of live performances I really appreciate - the storytellers - much like James Taylor, Amy Grant, Chris Rice and more. I love to hear what inspired these musicians to write their songs, and then the songs mean much more to me when I hear them.
Last night, Jeremy and I went to Disney’s The Lion King at the Orpheum. I had seen the show the last time it was in the Cities, but Jeremy had never seen it, so we jumped at the chance to get slightly-reduced-price tickets through a friend. We started with dinner, but again, at our first choice, Rock Bottom Brewery, the wait was too long by the time we got to downtown Mpls. We ended up at Hopscotch Grill in GameWorks. I have to admit I was skeptical of eating in an arcade, but the food was excellent and the service very fast. The show did not disappoint. Disney continues to amaze me! The opening act still gave me chills, even though I knew what to expect!
