Bedtime

Ever since Mac started sleeping in a “big boy” bed, we’ve had issues on and off with bedtime. Unfortunately, we didn’t battle the issue consistently, and the cutie got away with quite a bit for a few months before we got fed up with the capers and the (even though cute) coming out of his room saying he needed something. We finally talked and agreed on a “plan of attack” for taking on the battle of bedtime. We decided to tell Mac if he got out of his bed, we’d put the gate up in his doorway. It happened, we followed through, and he went into one of the worst tantrums we’ve seen. But we helped keep each other strong, and after just a week of that, we were able to leave the gate down, and he stayed in bed. Occasionally we still need to threaten or even put the gate up, but for the most part those battles are over. It also helps that Mac is a bit more tired when he goes to bed because he’s gotten to play outside more now that the weather is nice!
While bedtime was a struggle, nap-time rarely was/is. But when it was, it could be pretty bad, especially since I was trying to work while listening to or being called to the activity in the kids’ room. A couple of days back in February, though, what I heard was just too cute to stop. So out came my handy phone for some video! Mac so rarely interacts with Vivian… these moments were too precious to let pass by or to stop just because they were supposed to be going to sleep.
