Ahh… Vacation!

After a big day working on the bathroom on Saturday, our whole family started a nice week-long vacation on Sunday. We drove to Wisconsin Dells and are staying at the Kalahari resort for three nights. There wasn’t much sleep to be had in the car, but after unpacking and settling in a bit, we still attempted our first trip to the water park. It started with Mac’s refusal to put on his swimsuit, so we didn’t even attempt the wristband at that point, but we kept going to see if he would conform. We all went inside the park, and I took Vivian to the swings first, and she seemed to like that.
She wasn’t thrilled with the next area where there was water splashing her, at first, but she seemed to get used to it. Mac wanted to go in but still refused to put on his swimsuit, so after just about 20 minutes, we headed back to the room to have some dinner and playtime before bed.
Monday morning we went out for breakfast to Paul Bunyan’s, a place I remember going when I was a kid with the BEST donuts – and they still are! My mom and Clare drove up from Madison and met us there. Then we headed back to the resort. The boys went back to the water park (after having to force the issue due to Mac’s continued refusal to put on his swimsuit – c’mon, Mac, Mommy and Daddy know what they’re doing!). Mom and Clare went also to see what it was like, and when they came back we chatted for a bit while Vivian napped. When the boys returned from a successful yet short trip to the water park, it was time for Mommy to get some time away – at the outlet mall! Those who know me know I am not a shopper, but I did have some things on my list I needed to get there – mostly for the kids, of course. It was a nice break. Clare headed back home, and Mom planned to stay with us until we go to Madison. :) By the time we returned from the mall, everyone was rested and ready to go back to the water park, so off we went! Jeremy had found a better area for little kids, so we spent most of our time there. They have rules posted that say life jackets are required for kids under 48″ and non-swimmers, but it seems not to be enforced in these little kid shallow areas. Vivian practiced her walking and really seemed to enjoy the water, and Mac moved around quite a bit though was more timid about the slides than we expected after having been down them earlier. He seems to take some time each visit to get used to it again. Perhaps a bit of his Mommy’s personality coming through once again… By 6:00 it was time to head back to the room for dinner (we have a room with a full kitchen and brought our own food to save some money). And then before we knew it, it was past the kids’ bedtime and quiet in the room once again!
This morning (Tuesday) we had a nice relaxing morning, Jeremy made breakfast, then Vivian was ready for her nap while the boys once again hit the water park. Little did we know Vivian would sleep as long as Mac lasted – almost 3 hours! I thought she’d have her usual short morning nap and we’d join them in the water park, but such was not in her plan today. The boys returned, she woke, we all had lunch, and the boys (yes, both of them) needed a nap after all that fun! Vivian played for a while and then needed another nap herself, which brings us to now… back to blogging and uploading photos… It’s been nice to have a real break from work (not even an email needing a response until late this afternoon) and the projects around the house!
