8 Months Old (and then some)

Yeah, so I’m behind again… What else is new?!
Vivian turned 8 months old on February 3rd. Now it’s 16 days later, and I’m finally writing about her month of development as I sit in “required do-nothing time” while my car is serviced. I have tried to keep track of her progress so that I can remember to write it all down, but that’s started to get away from me too.
She continues to improve on pulling herself up, now on just about anything! I even caught her last week letting go for just a split second trying to balance. I’m sure we’re a ways from her standing on her own, but probably not as far as we’d like…
On January 6th, soon after her 7-month “birthday,” she started drinking from a sippy cup and continues to improve that skill. She also likes to bang it on her tray – yet another noise for this loud little girl! Mac is not wild about that – in fact, last week, I gave him the cup to give to her, and before he gave it to her, he said, “no pounding, no pounding.” Adorable, right? I’m not sure if I’ve written before about her other eating developments. She does feed herself well – cheerios, kix, crackers, carrots, and just about anything else we throw on her tray! She has rice cereal made with formula and baby food twice a day just to get her some added nutrition, but she also still nurses three times a day. We are fortunate that my new schedule has allowed us to continue that for so long!

On February 1st, I had a parent training to run at work in the evening, and as I was getting set up, I got this photo texted to me from Jeremy at home! I had noticed her starting a climbing motion for the week or so before, so I knew it was coming, but really…

On February 13th (I know, this throws off the whole month-by-month progress), we noticed we could actually SEE the first of her teeth had finally broken through.
Other than those milestones and the blessing that she actually stayed healthy through my and Mac’s bout with the stomach flu, there’s not much more newsworthy to share. She is still getting over a little cold – amazingly, the first illness she’s had since birth!
Overall, Vivian is still a very good baby. She has her moments, as everyone does, which were more frequent in the last few weeks as those teeth were breaking through, but she is usually happy. She is good about playing by herself when we need her to, and she really likes those Baby Einstein movies! She LOVES her brother, almost more than he would like at times, but we’ve found ways to keep her at bay so as not to bother him too much. She is a fairly good sleeper, but the last few weeks (again, we believe the teeth were the culprit) have been rough on us. That is getting better now. I am still struggling a bit with routine in her napping schedule, but hopefully we’ll get there.
