Vivian: Four Months Old

Vivian is growing and changing it seems every day, but I just haven’t had the time to blog about her as often as I did about Mac when he was a baby, but I have tried to at least write down dates of milestones.  On September 10th (just over 14 weeks old), she turned from her back to her tummy.  I put her down on her mat on her back to play, went into the kitchen for something, and when I came back, she was on her tummy!  In just a week, she was doing it more consistently and is of course by now a pro.  Now she almost seems to prefer to be on her tummy as long as she isn’t too tired.

A few days later she started being able to grab at her toys above her on her activity mat and could actually grab her musical toy enough to make it play!  She also now likes to sit in her walker (which doesn’t move) since she can hold up her head and grab her toys.

Vivian doesn’t seem to like to be left in a room by herself now, unless she’s sleeping.  I’m not sure if that is a phase, but I sure hope so.  She is learning quickly how to use her voice!  She started a lovely squealing a few weeks ago that I’m not too wild about, though she hasn’t done that as much in the last week.

She likes her nuk, but I’ve also noticed she has started sucking her thumb.  While that is convenient right now when she can’t get her nuk in by herself, I’m trying to steer her away from it and get her nuk in instead.  We just can’t limit her thumb if she starts that, and we prefer to be able to limit like we did and still do with Mac.  And moving on from it would be much harder as well.  So we’ll see…

Vivian is already developing a very social personality (God, help me).  In addition to not liking to be left alone, she will charm anyone who will talk to her and does not like it when those same people stop talking to her!  This is good for times when I need to take her to work, but not so great when I’m trying to get things done at home.

She still is a good eater and sleeper – we are so spoiled!  She sleeps about 11 hours at night and eats 4 times a day.  It’s really been just me with her lately, though, so she’s been nursing exclusively.  Then when I left her with Jane last week, she did NOT want a bottle.  She didn’t want to take one the first several hours this weekend either when I was gone, but she seemed to get over that, thank goodness.  We’ll need to do more bottle feeding when we have the opportunity so that when I do finally go back to work full time it’s not such a tough transition.

Next up for Vivian is starting solid foods… rice cereal, here we come!  We have her 4-month check-up this week.

Here’s another older video – I’m catching up with hers too…
