Baby Vivian: Day 5

Posted By on June 7, 2010

Vivian is four days old.  Last night wasn’t great as far as sleeping and eating, but it wasn’t too terrible either.

Jeremy put together the new double stroller that Roxi bought us, and Mac immediately climbed in – before he was even dressed!  Once everyone was ready to go, we took it out for a ride to school to update my insurance paperwork.  Surprisingly, after Mac had spent all that time in the stroller before we left, he wanted to walk instead…  We did have our first issue with me being unable to discipline Mac as I would have if I could pick him up.  He wanted to take me downstairs at school, and then he wouldn’t come up the stairs when I asked.  Normally I would tell him a few times then go get him, but I couldn’t do that this time.  I had to partially give in to find out what was causing the tantrum, then he walked me down the hallway out the other side, and I guided him outside so we could make our way back to Mom to go home.  I’m still not really sure what he was wanting to do, but we got through it.  He threw another fit halfway home when he decided not to follow the rules of holding one of our hands or the stroller, and Mom had to help me get him strapped in for the remainder of the ride home.  When we got home, it was time for Mac to have lunch and get his nap – he was cranky and more than ready!

Then we had Vivian’s follow-up visit to the pediatrician.  We had not be supplementing like the discharging pediatrician recommended, but I really wasn’t worried.  And as it turns out, there was no reason to – she has gained 4 ounces over two days when they like to see at least 3/4 oz. per day!  She’s back up to 8 pounds, .5 ounces.  The doctor was happy with everything he saw and dismissed us with a clean bill of health.

Mac had swimming lessons tonight – his last class of the session.  Nana got to go and see him swim while Vivian and I stayed home to rest.  We’ve had a nice relaxing night.  Roxi was by for a short visit, and Steph and Jo visited for a while too, taking care of Vivian while the rest of us had dinner.  At bedtime, Mac once again gave Vivian a kiss and was able to really hug her when I put her out on my lap where he could reach her.  I was able to do some organizing of girl clothes and junk mail before I had enough for the day and needed to rest.  Hopefully it will be a little earlier to bed for me tonight and a good night for me and Vivian.
