First Haircut!

Posted By on July 26, 2009

IMG_1923 This past week, Mac and I spent time in Madison with my family.  Jeremy had to work for some of the time so stayed home.  I was also able to visit with some friends and have some down-time.  It was great!  We even had a bonus couple of days with my Mom since coincidentally my sister would be traveling by herself to Madison this weekend, so Mom was a “rider” for me on my way home and Jane on her way to Madison!

While she was here, we decided to finally get Mac’s first haircut.  It was getting pretty stringy on top and long over his ears and in the back.  Don’t worry… we preserved the curls!  We weren’t sure at all how he’d react.  I thought he was pretty well-rested and really thought he’d be fine.  I was wrong!  He cried quite a bit, didn’t want any of it, wouldn’t let us put the apron on, and held onto his daddy pretty hard.  But about halfway through, he stopped.  He saw something next to us, I’m still not sure what, and was calm for the rest of the cut.  Well, until we tried the hair dryer.  Oops!  We did manage to capture the chaos on video…

You will also hear in the video a tip about how to finally get rid of Mac’s cradle cap, which, to our surprise, is likely the reason his hair is so thin and patchy right now.  She said to use baby oil on it then comb through and remove the (for lack of a better word) crusties, then give him a bath.  We did try it that same night, and it worked like a charm, though we combined her advice with something my mom had heard and used olive oil instead.  We’ll keep working on it since we are only supposed to do a little at a time, especially with Mac’s sensitive skin.
