Spring Break
Posted By Jill on March 24, 2009
Jeremy, Mac and I enjoyed the first couple of days of my spring break hanging out at home and getting some things done around the house. Mac has been very agreeable to this laid back schedule, waking after 8:00 each day, and even sleeping until 9:30 one morning!
Today we headed out on a field trip to the Mall of America. Not a favorite for either of us, we still wanted to do some fun things with Mac this week, and with the weather not cooperating, the mall was one of only a few options. We walked in near the rotunda where they frequently hold special events and immediately noticed an unusually high volume of strollers. Turns out it was “Toddler Tuesday” at the mall! Eeks!
We headed straight over to the Lego store and let Mac play with the big blocks for a while. He loves to play with blocks, but not building – we build, he takes them apart!
We also wanted to start shopping for shoes, since Mac is now days away from being a consistent walker! We want him to be able to walk around outside as the weather gets better, so he needs shoes that are both flexible and thick-soled. So we left the Lego store to search out some shoes, with recommendations from Jane, of course! We did find the ones she told us about, and we got his feet measured, but we decided to wait and see if I could find them less expensive online or at the outlet.
After that, we decided to take advantage of a coupon we had for Underwater Adventures. Mac just loves the water and really showed interest in the aquarium at Disney World, so we were hopeful he’d enjoy it. We’d never pay full price for it – it’s totally outrageous what they charge – but with a two-for-one and Mac’s admission being free, it was well worth a try.
And he LOVED it! After that, it was time to head home for naptime and lunch.
On our way to the mall today, we stopped at the library and got a pass for tomorrow’s trip – to the ZOO! Our library system offers passes for about 20 places around the Cities, like museums and zoos, for free admission, most for 2 people, some for 4. It took a bit of running around to figure out how to get the very popular zoo pass, but we got it!
I’m pretty proud of the way we’ve had fun but saved money at the same time so far this week. We saved almost $20 with our coupon at Underwater Adventures and will save $28 using the pass for the zoo! And in addition to that, I found a discount code for the shoes and will save 15% on that purchase as well if I don’t find them even cheaper at an outlet store.
After the zoo it’s off for a long weekend in Madison for Mac and me, and off to work for Jeremy…
Here’s a short video of Mac at Underwater Adventures. He was pretty excited!
