One Year Old

IMG_0229 Big changes are happening!  Our one-year-old just keeps getting bigger and smarter.  His checkup today showed he is 24 pounds (although we’d swear he weighs more after carrying him so much last week), he measures 30.25 inches and his head is 18.75 inches around.  He is in the 70th percentile for weight and height and 85th percentile for head size.

At a year old, the biggest changes are that Mac can now sit in a forward-facing car seat, about which he seems very excited!  Jeremy said he was wide-eyed on his first trip to daycare in his new seat.  Mac can also drink regular (whole) milk now and will be able to finally try strawberries and peanuts!

He is right on track with his other developments too, more ahead with gross and fine motor than communication and language.

He got three shots today and had blood drawn to be tested for lead.  He was in need of a nap at the time of his doctor’s appointment, so he wasn’t quite as brave as usual, though he still did well for the shots and only cried for a few seconds.  The blood draw was a different story.  She started by trying his finger, but it wasn’t running well because he was so tensed up.  She couldn’t believe how strong he is!  Then she had to try his arm, which I didn’t even realize they could do with such a little kid.  The doctor had said they’d draw from his heel, so we weren’t expecting the struggle, but when we got to the lab they said they only prick the heel for newborns.  They had to poke around a bit, but they got a vein and it was over quickly after that.  We all got through it.  Mac fell asleep minutes after starting our drive back home.
