Disney Over-Time Blog: Last Day
Posted By Jill on February 17, 2009
On our last day at Disney, we gathered our belongings and memories… the dads and kids had some breakfast while the moms (Jo and I) checked out and made sure luggage was checked. Disney’s Magical Express took care of our checked luggage at the hotel so we didn’t have to come back for it. We intended to try to leave for the airport from Clare & Mom’s hotel so we took all our carry-on luggage there, which was no small feat. Unfortunately, when we got there, they told us we would need to be picked up from our own hotel (even though two different people had told Clare we could do it our way). Not wanting to take a chance or put any more wrinkles in the plan, we were able to have our carry-on luggage sent back to our hotel to be there when we got our bus, which in the end didn’t waste more than probably 30 minutes of time when all was said and done, so chalk that one up to lesson learned.
We headed to Epcot where we split up to try to get to a few things we still wanted to do but were all unsuccessful! The boys tried to get to Test Track which was too long of a wait, Jeremy and I tried to get a Fastpass for Soarin’ (my third attempt) but the return was too late, and the rest of the group tried to get into Honey I Shrunk the Audience, which was also full. Oh well! So we headed to our lunch reservation at the Germany Pavilion. I was really glad Timmy wanted to go there – I haven’t had German food in so long! It was a buffet and SO good. Then the band came on and we all went down for a family polka. Very fun! Mac was ready for a nap pretty much by the time we got to the park, so we left him in the stroller at lunch and he actually slept for about 45 minutes, thank goodness. He woke in time to have a little snack and enjoy the band with us.
We stopped for some ice cream treats to use up the last of our snacks from our Dining Plan then took the bus back to our hotel, collected our carry-ons (which thankfully HAD been transferred back to our hotel correctly), and boarded the Magical Express to the airport.
We met up with the rest of the travelers then Jeremy, Mac and I headed through security in hopes we’d have time for Mac to get another short nap before boarding, but no luck there. But then he fell asleep as soon as I put him in the carrier to get ready to board the plane. I was afraid that might mean he wouldn’t sleep during the flight, and I was prepared for the worst, but I was wrong (yea!). He slept almost the whole way, even though he woke quite a few times to move and re-settle. We had a smooth flight back home and Mac was very happy to be back in his room. We let him wander around and play in there before getting him ready for bed. He crashed quickly and hard, as we expected. We were ALL glad to be back in our own beds but sad to leave Mickey behind.
