Sick Day

Posted By on January 22, 2009

I had to take my first parent sick days this week. When Jeremy went to get Mac up Wednesday morning he noticed Mac had thrown up in the night, twice. He didn’t fuss or cry, didn’t wake us up, but when Jeremy found him lying in it (eww), he called me in the room. Coincidentally, I woke up feeling nauseated and thinking about calling in sick myself. Jeremy was scheduled to work, so I quickly made calls and planned to stay home with Mac. Our first choice is always for Jeremy to stay home, but it wasn’t an option this time. I felt nauseated all day, couldn’t eat and was achy.  Mac did pretty well, seemed better than I felt all day long.  He ate ok in the morning but did throw up again in the afternoon, so he only had bottles the rest of the night.  That also meant another day at home for me today since he has to be healthy for at least 24 hours before going back to daycare and Jeremy would have to work again.  Luckily Jeremy got home around 5 and was able to take over for the evening and didn’t have to leave early today, so I got some much-needed rest and felt much better this morning.

Mac still isn’t quite himself today. He hasn’t eaten except for the banana Jeremy said he had for breakfast. He has slept about an hour every hour and a half or so, until this nap for which I put him down at 5 (still sleeping now at 8:15). I am hopeful that when he wakes up, he’ll eat a good dinner and be able to go to daycare tomorrow. I have actually very selfishly enjoyed the time at home, but the reality remains that things only seem to break down when I’m not at work!  So I hope for Mac’s sake and work’s sake, that he’s feeling better tomorrow morning!
