Six Months

Posted By on August 14, 2008

I have been neglecting my updates on Mac’s development in lieu of our moving news, but even though it’s a day late, I can’t let his six month birthday go by without a post about him.

There really haven’t been huge developmental changes for Mac this month. He has improved quite a bit on his eating from a spoon. He’s still messy but not nearly as bad. We have also started giving him some new foods like dry cereal, bread, graham crackers and cooked potatoes. He has seemed to like all of it, even if it takes a couple bites to get used to it. Some of it even stays in his mouth!

Mac can now almost always get his pacifier by himself, which has meant less getting up in the night, even though it was seldom we had to do that. He has really slept great in the basement at the new house – I guess he likes the dark room! We’re looking forward to seeing how he does in his new room next week. He is also getting better at going to sleep on his own even when he’s not all the way asleep when we put him in his crib.

He is much better at sitting up but is not yet crawling as we expected. He moves around but more actually on his back. He is just starting to get some movement on his tummy.

He really likes books (like his daddy) and when given a pile of toys will more often than not pick the book first.

He doesn’t seem to have any stranger anxiety yet and still loves it when anyone looks at him, smiles and/or talks to him. The only thing he still doesn’t seem to like is loud laughing, yelling or clapping close to him, but even that is moreso when he’s tired. Hopefully he’ll get used to it as football season is quickly approaching!

Good news for us – no teeth yet!

To say we have asked a lot of our son over the last three weeks is a huge understatement. But he remains a flexible, laid-back, happy baby. We give him what he needs (probably not always what he wants), and he amazes us every day at how well-behaved and good-natured he is. We can only hope this continues and is a sign we’re doing something right.
