The Big Apple

I never in a million years pictured myself in the situation I was yesterday morning.  Jeremy went to a mall to stand in line for me early so I could get the iPhone (2 WEEKS after they were first released) for which I’d been saving my money.  I had gone the day before, arriving 15 minutes after the store opened, and they didn’t have any left of the one I wanted.  Jeremy arrived around 8:30 a.m. and got a claim ticket, then Mac and I arrived around 9:00 to stand in line as well, as long as Mac was happy.

I tell you, there is a reason Apple is successful, and other companies should follow suit.  They not only staffed the line early, they OPEN THE STORE early to accommodate their customers.  And not only that, they provided Caribou coffee to those waiting in line!

The claim ticket said we could come back by 6:00 p.m., but we decided on a Saturday it was probably best to wait in the line that was already moving.  The line didn’t get any smaller by the time we reached the store at 10:00.  An HOUR in line!  I still can’t believe it, even as I’m writing this.

All of that being said, I am very happy with my purchase.  The iPhone really is a great device and worth all the hype it receives.  I never would have purchased one at the original price, but at $200, it was something practical for my uses.  Now I know some of you are thinking, “$200 for a phone?”  NO.  $200 for a device that is a phone in addition to allowing me to access my calendar, email, internet, music, movies, and a whole lot more.  Why do I need this?  Well, to by honest, I probably don’t NEED it, but most of my life is digital at this point.  Most of my contacts are made online or via texting for work and personal things.  I use the internet on a daily basis for almost everything, and now I have access in the palm of my hand.  I don’t have to get to a computer to solve work problems, which means more time for myself and my family.  The list goes on…  Now I’m not saying everyone should get an iPhone, but for me, this device is absolutely fantastic.  The quality of calls is much better than my Treo was, which surprised me with all the other features.  I’m sure I’ll share more later as I have time to explore!
