Eighteen Weeks

P1030191 Mac continues to change daily. Over the last couple of weeks, Mac has started to play with his toys much more and enjoy mirrors (he especially loves the one Grandma gave him that goes in his crib). It takes a little longer for his to go to sleep in his swing now, since he likes to play with the little puppy and kitty that hang down. I’m not sure how long it will be before he figures out that pulling on them makes the music and lights turn on! He thinks nothing now about rolling from his back to his tummy, although he still can’t seem to figure out what to do once he’s over. He is so close to scooting that he moves once in a while, but he still needs some time to figure out how to lift that big belly! The video below is of some tummy and play time over the last couple of weeks. You can really see a difference when compared to the last ones of his back-to-tummy and tummy time at 6 weeks.

Mac is still a great sleeper, and we hope that continues. Short of having to get up 1-3 times a night to help him with his pacifier, he sleeps from about 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. on average. Usually it’s longer. He typically wakes up before we do and plays in his crib for a while before getting fussy. Last night when Jeremy checked on him before going to bed, he had turned to his tummy and was sleeping there. That was the first time we noticed that – usually he’s fussing because he flipped over to his tummy but wants to be on his back.We have been fortunate with Jeremy’s schedule this week to have a few days together that were nice enough to spend at the pool! We pack our lunches and Mac’s bottles, along with a pile of gear, including his awesome tent, and after about five trips I think have pretty much got a system down. We put the tent in the shade to keep Mac cool and out of the sun (and bugs soon, I suppose). Depending on when we get there, he gets some play time in his tent or we go right into the pool. When he’s done playing, he changes into dry clothes and gets swaddled and cuddled to sleep, then we put him down in his tent. He has slept for about an hour and a half in there, so I think he likes it! We also got him a little swim float so he can get used to being in the water one step away from us holding him. He seems to like that too. And once in a while we’ll dunk his face in so he gets used to it. He gets surprised but doesn’t fuss or cry, so we’re hopeful he’ll like the water as much as we do. See the video below of him in his swim float!

The cereal feeding continues to progress, though admittedly we’ve been a little busy the last couple of days to keep up with it. We’ll get back to it today. He seems to learn so quickly that I’m really not worried, although every day he seems to polish off his bottles at a more alarming rate, so that solid food might help! Here is the video I took last week (highlights at least) of his third try at cereal:

He’s really such a good baby; we both are very thankful. He is healthy and seems happy as long as we tend to his needs. We are so looking forward to the rest of the summer as he continues to discover his world!
