“It doesn’t get a whole lot better than this.
With Brett Favre playing like a man time forgot, Mike McCarthy making all the right moves and Greg Jennings reminding everyone what they’ve been missing, the Green Bay Packers outlasted the San Diego Chargers on Sunday in one of the greatest games played at Lambeau Field in the last decade.” (JS Online)

But it does get better – I was there! Baby’s first Packer game turned out to be one for the record books, and it was an incredible day all around. Not only did Brett Favre tie the NFL record for touchdowns, but one of our family favorites, Donald Driver, broke a franchise record in receptions at Lambeau Field. Both didn’t just accomplish their records, they played a fantastic and energetic game. Jane and I could only hope for such a beautiful day.

P1020108 On our drive into the stadium, we listened to “Packers Game Day” on the radio – I don’t get to do that at home unless I’m listening on my computer. We drove in from the east to see Lambeau in the distance, talking about how excited we were for the game, hoping the Packers would win, and how great it would be to see Brett tie or even break that TD record. We both thought it was a long shot against the Chargers who had something to prove. Jane wanted to make a sign in the Atrium (free! sponsored by Kohl’s) and take a picture documenting Baby’s first game. :)

As the fourth quarter started and the Packers got the ball heading towards our end zone, I wouldn’t even let Jane say out loud what we were both thinking – if he ties it, it’s in our end. And as those few plays from the 1-yard-line yielded nothing, we grew doubtful it would happen at all. But the defense held strong and gave Brett another chance – apparently all he needed!

Lambeau is still one of my favorite places to be. The ride there and back this time seemed shorter than usual (it helped that I had my MacBook charged up and loaded with episodes of the Mike McCarthy show and other Packers video podcasts). We enjoyed our usual shopping at the Packers Pro Shop and the Jersey Store, had our ice cream at Frozen In Time in the Atrium and cheese curds during the game, and this time took in the Hall of Fame. Interestingly enough, in the Hall of Fame they have a couple of displays from the most recent game – tape, gloves, shoes, etc. It took us a while to realize (and believe) they were from the last weekend! They had the tape from Brett’s ankles from the Giants game, where Kurt Fielding predicted 2 TDS and a win (I don’t remember the score prediction, it was close but not right). Fielding still writes his predictions on Brett’s taping every game as a pre-game ritual.

It’s hard to believe Baby will come out saying anything other than GO PACK GO after this weekend, but when I tried to tell him at the ultrasound that the reason baby was moving its arms was because it was practicing its “go pack go” cheer, Jeremy insisted baby was instead mourning the Vikings loss. Hmm… I guess we’ll have to wait and see…
