Visit to Brew City for Anita’s Birthday!

This past weekend I drove to Milwaukee to spend the weekend with Anita for her birthday (which was the weekend before). I arrived Friday night to a beautiful sight – Anita recently had wood laminate floors installed. She’s done some great things with her house. I actually had my camera with me for the trip but never once took it out of my purse… oops. I’ll have to work more on this traveling blog thing… Then Anita invited me to use her extra-special employee discount for some shopping at Kohl’s! We played some Trivial Pursuit before bed – she kicked my butt.
Saturday we visited with the fam, including Anita’s new (almost 3-month-old) nephew, and then it was off for lunch at the old standard – George Webb! I just HAVE to eat there at least once every time I’m in Milwaukee. I haven’t found anything comparable here in the Cities. Then we headed off to Menard’s to see what trouble we could get into. Anita asked me to re-pot some plants for her as a birthday present, so we had to pick up some soil and pots. But we left the store with MUCH more! Anita decided she’d also like to continue her upgrading with some nice draperies for the living room, so I helped her pick those out and we installed them later. And she got some other stuff too. We played another round of Trivial Pursuit (I won this time) and headed over to Monica’s for another visit. We went to dinner at a great pizza place Ricardo’s in Greendale Village, then across the street we went for ice cream (ok just for me) to Ferch’s Malt Shoppe & Grille. I highly recommend this place if you like ice cream and are in the area – it was like Culver’s meets Coldstone. They had low-carb frozen custard, flavored to order, with mix-ins to order too… yum! Yes, my friends, it IS all about the food!
Sunday we drove to Madison (on my way home) and visited with Kathy for a few hours. We went out to lunch then back to Kathy’s house since I haven’t seen her kids in over a year, and I hadn’t even met Joey! We sat outside on the deck, chatted and played some Yahtzee (Kathy is still queen) while enjoying the gorgeous weather. Then it was time to head back home.
I had a terrific weekend; lots of time to relax and chat and catch up with friends. It’s tough to have my friends so far away (not to take anything away from my friends here), but it’s nice to have these times to renew and rejuvenate. I was missing Jeremy, especially since he’s on the road this week, but this was a much-needed vacation of sorts to get me through the end of the school year!
